Assessment of economic damage to a consumer and an economic entity when handling inappropriate food products

Abstract:

Food products realization that do not meet the standards requirements causes threat to public health, risk of food poisoning, occurring complaints about the poor quality and products safety. All this leads to the economic damage to consumers and economic entities. The discussion and application of various risk management tools for public health, as well as the reduction of damage to participants in the circulation of low-quality products remain topical issues. The research purpose is to assess the economic damage of consumers and economic entities when handling inappropriate food products to consider promising methods of managing the harm (damage) risks. The researchers used and analyzed the following data: Rospotrebnadzor Department in the Sverdlovsk Region; the Federal State Budgetary Institution “Center of Hygiene and Epidemiology in the Sverdlovsk Region”; Rosstat; the regional operator for the solid municipal waste management in the Sverdlovsk region; Spetsavtobaza. A man calculated the economic damage to the consumer and the economic entity resulting from the handling of inappropriate food products considering its withdrawal and consumer complaints. Economic entities additionally bear the costs of recycling the seized products and imposed administrative fines. Producers and sellers of meat, dairy, fish and fruit and vegetable products face the greatest economic damage. The obtained data of economic losses are one of the motivating factors for increasing the responsibility of economic entities for the production and sale of high-quality products on the consumer market.
